It's been a while since I've last written a blog on here. Over three years, actually, and, honestly, I need to change that!
I decided to do a series of photographs of people that have had, or currently have, a form of Blood Cancer. It's September 1st and it officially kicks off Blood Cancer Awareness month. You may be asking why I would want to do this, and it's because I was diagnosed in 2009 with CML, a type of Leukemia.
I have wanted to do this project for years, but lacked the courage to do so. One, I knew only so many people that have any, and two, it's hard for me to talk about. Recently, a young lady from a town I lived in passed from AML. It hit me hard! This type is close to the type I have, and she was mourned by her friends and family DEEPLY. My cousin also passed away two years ago from another type of aggressive Leukemia. My project is dedicated to the young lady that passed, and my cousin, who we all miss dearly.
This first story is about Amanda Parker. She is a friend of our family, and was very eager to participate. I was so happy to help tell her story, and between the tears, laughs, and sighs, we created something beautiful!
I owe a special thank you to Diane Diedrich, and her constant support with helping me with my project! It means more to me than you'll ever know!
